Billy Fenton

Green Man
At Lady’s Abbey, Ardfinnan, Ireland

Bulging eyes.
Stone nose eaten by time.
Leafy river
flowing from your mouth.

What are you,
pagan,
doing on the walls
of a Christian Church?

Is it you who embraces
this abandoned place?
Kisses its walls
with great sheets of ivy.

Two lost lovers −
lie down
with each other
again.
