Mike Smith

I’ll go out lingeringly or like a light
but either way leave stuff undone

There’ll be rejections not yet made
acceptances as yet unpublished

There will be gifts as yet unwrapped
bought long ago but not yet given.

There will be secrets cleverly concealed
and scars of wounds long healed

There will be words that were not said
decaying in my cooling head

There will be people left behind
I could not lose and did not find

There’ll be a fee to pay
Upon the ferry

There will be memories
to bury.

Mike Smith writes poetry, essays (mostly on the short story form) and short splays. He writes short stories as Brindley Hallam Dennis.
