Martin Lyon was a librarian at the School of Oriental and African Studies at London University. He began writing poetry in adolescence and has appeared in a variety of magazines.

A traditionalist, he uses metre and, where appropriate, rhyme. He is also a lover of Latin poetry which he has both translated and composed.
